According to records, the barbecue season restaurant was formerly a "barbecue stall" by the Yinding Bridge in Shichahai. The stall owner, Ji Decai, was a native of Tongzhou, Beijing. Its original name was "Luquanju". Because the owner's surname is Ji, he deals in roast mutton, so people commonly call it "barbecue season". Jijia barbecue has unique technology and delicious taste, and customers all praise it. After the owner Ji Decai died, his son Ji Zongbin succeeded him, and then his grandson Ji Zengyuan succeeded him. Ji Zengyuan died of illness in 1927, and his 21-year-old brother Ji Gechen was in charge. After he took over the stall, he set up a big copper pot with bricks, set up an aluminum shed, and placed eight tables and more than 2 stools, thus changing from a stall vendor to a seat vendor, continuing to operate roast mutton, and conveniently calling it the "barbecue season". In August, 1945, in order to develop the store, Ji Gechen ran around and raised funds, and finally bought a quaint and small building facing south at the Yinding Bridge, and continued to operate barbecue. Because the "barbecue season" is famous for its unique roast mutton, some celebrities often eat here. Mr. Xinyu Pu, a great calligrapher, presented the signboard of "Barbecue Season" and the banner of "Lianchi Villa", and Mr. Laoshe, a famous writer, also wrote a plaque for the restaurant. Unfortunately, these plaques were all lost during the Cultural Revolution. The plaque hanging now was written by Mr. Pu Jie, the younger brother of the last emperor Puyi, in 1988.
