Gryllotalpa orientalis occurs annually in central China, the Yangtze River Basin and the provinces south of it, and completes one generation in about 2 years in north China, northeast and northwest, and one generation in about 1 year in southern Shaanxi, and one generation in 1~2 years in northern Shaanxi and Guanzhong. In the Huanghuai area, the overwintering adults start laying eggs in May, with the peak period in June and July, and the eggs hatch after 15~28d, and the hatchlings of the year develop to 4~7 instars, and overwinter in 40~60 cm deep soil. In the spring of the second year, it resumed its activities, and began to infest in August as an adult. The period of the worm is up to more than 400 days. A few adults can lay eggs in that year, and most of them will lay eggs only in the third year after overwintering. In Heilongjiang Province, the activity of overwintering adult mayflies is about in the first and middle of June, and the feathering of overwintering mayflies is about in the middle and late August. Gryllolaptaptidae can harm all kinds of vegetables.
