According to statistics, the output of tilapia in Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian provinces all exceeded 654.38 million tons in 2000. Guangdong province has always been the main producing area of tilapia culture in China. For example, in 1999, the tilapia farming output in the whole province was 2 1 10,000 tons, reaching 250,000 tons in 2000 and 270,000 tons in 200 1 year, accounting for 400% of the total tilapia production in China. It was 290,000 tons in 2002 and 390,000 tons in 2003.
Tilapia has become the largest freshwater aquaculture species after bighead carp, bighead carp and silver carp. The output of tilapia in Hainan Province was more than 60,000 tons in 2000, 70,000 tons in 2006 and 80,000 tons in 2002. In 2003 and 2004, the output of tilapia in Hainan Province remained at about 654.38+10,000 tons, accounting for 70% of the freshwater fish output in the province. Tilapia is the most successful species in economic and social benefits in the aquatic product introduction projects in China.
