Metapenaeus ensis is a sea shrimp. Indeed, the metapenaeus ensis we bought now is kept in fresh water, so we will mistakenly think that metapenaeus ensis is a freshwater shrimp, that is, a river shrimp. Actually, it's not. It's just a diluted shrimp fry. It can be raised in fresh water, but it still belongs to sea shrimp. Many seawater varieties have desalted seedlings, and now freshwater culture of seawater varieties has become very common.
More than a decade ago, most of metapenaeus ensis was wild sea shrimp. Today, metapenaeus ensis on the dining table has become a cultured species. After all, the output of wild shrimp is far from meeting the demand of our prawns. At present, most of metapenaeus ensis is breeding in fresh water and cultivating in seawater. The reason for its name is also "enclosure culture". In the past, metapenaeus ensis grew up in the enclosure of paddy fields, so it was called "base enclosure". In modern times, most of them build feeding ponds at the estuary for artificial feeding. Metapenaeus ensis is not the scientific name of shrimp, but a popular name in life.
Freshwater aquaculture: Freshwater aquaculture refers to the production of aquatic economic animals (fish, shrimp, crab, shellfish, etc.) and aquatic economic plants by using ponds, reservoirs, lakes, rivers and other inland waters (including brackish water), which is an important part of inland aquaculture. The main breeding objects are fish. The shrimps are Macrobrachium rosenbergii and Hainan prawns, and the crabs are mainly river crabs. At present, the freshwater cultured fish in China mainly include: fish, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp, carp, crucian carp, bream, bream, non-crucian carp and other economic fish. China's freshwater aquaculture area and output rank first in the world.
Is metapenaeus ensis in the sea or in the river?
Metapenaeus ensis likes to live in shallow sea with sand and mud bottom and low salinity. He usually hides his body in the seabed, only protruding his eyes and breathing at the front end of his head to escape from the enemy and wait for food. When the tide rises, he will climb into some slow-flowing inner bays to live. After discovering this characteristic, fishermen pull nets or build stone foundations in the inner bay, and so on.
The fishermen of the older generation called these traps as a base fence, so the shrimps caught with the base fence were also called metapenaeus ensis. Therefore, in different regions, metapenaeus ensis refers to different shrimps. For example, in the northern market, the "metapenaeus ensis" often refers to fresh, lively and striped. Another example is the southern market, where "metapenaeus ensis" does not refer to Japanese prawns! Most of them refer to the earliest "metapenaeus ensis"-Penaeus monodon.
