Perennial herbs, about 30-80cm tall, hairless. The stem is erect with branches on the upper part. Most basal leaves, 3.5-8 cm long and 1-2 cm wide, are pointed or obtuse at the top, with downward extending basal stalks, serrated or irregularly pinnately divided edges, smaller stem leaves, oval oblong or ovate-lanceolate, pointed at the top, often with ear-shaped or halberd stems at the base, full-margin or pinnately divided edges, and dense heads and umbrellas. The involucre is 5-6 mm long, cylindrical, with 2 layers, usually 5 outer layers, oval and extremely small; 8 pieces of inner layer, lanceolate, about 5mm long, back 1 tendon. The head only contains tongue-shaped flowers, yellow, 7-8 mm long, truncated at the top and 5 teeth. The flowering and fruiting period is June-July. Ilex pedunculata has many edible and medicinal values.
