The allusion comes from the Tang general Guo Ziyi. Guo Ziyi (697-781), a native of Zheng County, Huazhou (now Hua County, Shaanxi Province), was a general of the Tang Dynasty. He was promoted to Tiande military envoy and Jiuyuan prefect. During the Anlushan Rebellion, he served as Shuofang's military governor, defeated Shi Siming in Hebei, and recovered Chang'an and Luoyang. Due to his meritorious service, he was promoted to the Imperial Secretary's Order, and was later granted the title of King of Fenyang. According to the legend of the drama, Guo Ziyi had seven sons and eight sons-in-law, all of whom were officials in the court. His son Guo Ai was the prince-in-law of the court. Whenever Guo Ziyi's birthday comes, all his seven sons and eight sons-in-law come to the house to celebrate his birthday, and the whole bed is filled with tooth wats alone. Because Guo Ai is the consort, Guo Ziyi can take him to court. Guo Ziyi lived to be 84 years old. People admired him for his high official position, longevity and descendants, and praised him as "the great wealth and longevity".
