It is also partly caused by otitis media, in which inflammatory exudate causes water in the ear. It is also easy to have repeated discharge of water in the ear due to the inflammatory reaction.

Water in the ears is more common in otitis externa and otitis media. Otitis externa is mostly caused by repeated ear picking. When the ears are picked, the skin of the external auditory canal is damaged, causing congestion, swelling, and oozing, resulting in exudation, which can be manifested as The external auditory canal is itchy and watery. During examination, congestion and swelling of the external auditory canal can be seen. There are more watery and purulent secretions in the external auditory canal. The tympanic membrane may be congested but intact during examination.

The occurrence of otitis media is mostly caused by inflammation reaching the tympanic cavity through the Eustachian tube. Most people have a history of upper respiratory tract infection, manifesting as pus discharge from the external auditory canal, hearing loss, and ear stuffiness.

During the examination, it can be seen that there is a lot of watery and purulent secretions in the external auditory canal, the tympanic membrane can be perforated, and the intratympanic mucosa is congested and swollen. The treatment of otitis externa is basically the same as that of otitis media. Antibiotics such as cefprozil and hormones such as prednisone can be given. The external auditory canal can be cleaned with 3% hydrogen peroxide, and then levofloxacin ear drops can be used.

When there is water and odor in the ears, there are generally two situations:

1. Acute suppurative otitis media. Often secondary to an upper respiratory tract infection, patients will experience significant pain, wateriness, and a peculiar smell in the external auditory canal. Generally, in clinical treatment, cephalosporin antibiotics are mainly used orally, and enteric-coated soft capsules of eucalyptus, lemon and pine can also be taken orally to promote the discharge of fluid in the middle ear cavity.

It is best to use hydrogen peroxide or saline to rinse the external auditory canal repeatedly, and then use levofloxacin hydrochloride ear drops for ear bath treatment. Normally, it takes about 7-10 days for the patient's condition to improve significantly.

2. Eczema of the external auditory canal. Eczema in the external auditory canal will also have a peculiar smell, there will also be water in the ear canal, and the patient will have a very obvious itching sensation. It is recommended that patients use compound ketoconazole cream for external use, and at the same time, they must avoid water entering the external auditory canal to avoid aggravating eczema infection.
