Indonesian bird's nest accounts for 80% of the global bird's nest production, Malaysia 13%, Thailand 5%, Vietnam 2%, China's bird's nest production in three places (basically tourism resources): Guangdong Zhaoqing Huaji County Yan Yan Yan, Yunnan Honghe Prefecture Jianshui County Yan Zi Cave, Hainan Dazhou Island (in 2002 only 2 bird's nests were harvested, in September 2006 there were only 15 swiftlets left, and the island was closed for a long period of time for protection). Due to the close proximity of the Tropic of Cancer, there is a strong seasonality in the harvesting of bird's nests and the production is scarce, with the total amount of bird's nests less than one ten thousandth of the global bird's nest production.
