Adenophora adenophora is a perennial herb with milky white, carrot-shaped roots, 40-80 cm high stems, unbranched, often short bristles or villous, less hairless, heart-shaped basal leaves, large and long stalks, sessile stem leaves, or only the lower leaves have extremely short wing stalks, oval, narrowly ovate, wedge-shaped at the base, at least nearly obtuse, and sharp or short cone at the top.
The inflorescence of Adenophora adenophora often does not branch into a false raceme, or a very narrow short-branched panicle, and rarely a long-branched panicle. Pedicels are often extremely short, less than 5 mm long, calyx is often pubescent or granular, less completely hairless, tube is often obovate, less obovate conical, lobes are long and narrow, mostly subulate, less lanceolate, 6-8 mm long and 6-8 mm wide. The outer part is hairless or setose, especially on the vein, which is 1.5-2.3 cm long, the lobes are 1/3 full-length, triangular oval, the disk is short and cylindrical, 1- 1.8 mm long and hairless, and the style is often slightly longer than the corolla.
The capsule of Adenophora adenophora is ovoid and spherical, rarely oval, 6- 10 mm long, and the seeds are brownish yellow, slightly flat and angular, about 1.5 mm long.
