The ripening season of strawberries is from February to March, which is spring.
Usually, strawberries grown in the open field mature between February and March, with peak harvests in April and May. If greenhouse cultivation is adopted, the time will generally be pushed forward a little, and the fruit will begin in January, and a bumper harvest will be achieved by March and April.
Strawberries are suitable for growing in temperatures of 20°C to 26°C. When the temperature rises above 5°C in spring, the plants begin to sprout. Generally speaking, in the south, because the temperature warms up relatively quickly, buds usually start to sprout in late February, bloom in early to mid-April, and can be harvested in mid-to-late May.
In the northern zone, because winter enters earlier, winter dormancy occurs earlier. Strawberries that have completed winter dormancy in advance will mature earlier than strawberries in the south.
Strawberry picking time:
The picking time of strawberry mainly depends on its maturity time. It needs to be picked promptly after ripening. If left unpicked for a long time, the fruit may rot in the ground.
1. Wild strawberries: The ripening time of wild strawberries is from June to August every year. So picking wild strawberries is usually done in summer.
2. Strawberries grown in the open air: There are two ripening times for strawberries grown in the open air, from January to March and from June to August each year. Therefore, picking strawberries grown in the open air is usually done in spring or summer.
3. Strawberries grown in greenhouses: Because the ripening time of strawberries can be changed by adjusting environmental conditions, strawberries grown in greenhouses may mature throughout the year. Therefore, picking strawberries grown in greenhouses can be done in four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
