Positive species, light-loving, drought-resistant, cold-resistant, barren, no choice of soil, adaptability is very strong. It has a developed root system, strong wind resistance and soil retention. Strong germination, resistant to pruning. Fast-growing and long-lived. Tolerant to dry and cold climate and moderate salinity, but not tolerant to water and humidity (tolerant to waterlogging in rainy season). Resistant to pollution, with good foliar dust retention ability. Grows well in deep, fertile, well-drained alluvial soil and loess plateau. It can be used as afforestation or "four-side" greening species in northwest desert, North China and Huaibei plain, hills and northeast barren mountains, sandy land and coastal salt alkaline land.

Elm uses

Sapwood narrow, light yellow-brown, heartwood dark gray-brown, straight grain, slightly coarse structure, solid and durable. It is used for furniture, vehicles, agricultural tools, implements, bridges, buildings and so on. The bark can be used for medicine and light chemical industry; the leaves can be used as fodder. Bark, leaves and samaras can be used medicinally to calm the mind and facilitate urination
