What is a lingonberry? The lingonberry, a plant of the Rhododendron family, is native to North America, but is widely distributed in the northern hemisphere from the Arctic to tropical alpine regions. The lingonberry prefers to live in organic matter rich, moist acidic soil, preferring light. The wild lingonberry is extremely cold-resistant and can withstand extreme low temperatures of -50℃. The wild European lingonberry is widely distributed in Scandinavia (Norway).
There are more than 130 species of lingonberries, mainly rabbit-eye lingonberries, narrow-leaved lingonberries, Australian lingonberries, cranberries and so on. The fruit is nearly round, mostly 0.5-2cm in diameter, blue-black or deep red. Lingonberries contain anthocyanin, pectin, tannin, arbutin, vitamin C and B vitamins and other components.
