Tianbinwei and Dawanwei are both perennial herbs of the genus Convolvulaceae in the Convolvulaceae family. They look very similar and are both called Fu Mian Yang in our hometown. When I was a child, I noticed that there were two different kinds of "rich cotton rice". One has long, narrow leaves and dark pink, fragrant flowers. One type has wide and short leaves, light pink flowers, and little fragrance. Later I learned that the former one is field bindweed and the latter one is bowl flower. Another reliable difference between field bindweed and bowlweed is the size of the bracts. The bracts of field bindweed are smaller, while the bracts of bowlweed are larger. Before blooming, they hold the flower buds together, like a bowl cut in half. This may be the origin of its name.
According to the classification of grasses when I was a child, bindweed and bowlweed should be considered good grasses, and sheep love to eat them. Although sheep love to eat, they should not eat too much. If they eat too much, they will become thinner. In Chinese literature, there are reports of livestock eating fresh grass and causing diarrhea. After searching on Baidu, it was said that Dawanhua has the effect of strengthening the spleen and replenishing qi and promoting digestion. Some people eat the rhizomes of field bindweed and bowlflower raw. I have tasted them, and they are a bit sweet, but not delicious. Convolvulus and bowlweed are poisonous and should not be eaten in large quantities.
Field bindweed and bowlweed have well-developed rhizomes and are particularly easy to propagate vegetatively. When the rhizome is broken into several segments, it will grow into several new plants. They are weeds that are difficult to eradicate in farmland. If they didn't grow in farmland, these two plants would be very cute. Its small and exquisite trumpet-shaped pink flowers are also very popular. In addition, it is strong in vitality and easy to manage, so it is very good as a ground cover plant.
