Anciently, fishermen in the Shanghai area invented a bamboo fishing tool called "hu", and at that time there was no such place name as Shanghai, so the area was known as "hudu", and so Shanghai was shortened to Therefore, Shanghai is called "Hudu" for short.
Wuyue, Huating came under the jurisdiction of Xiuzhou, which was located in Jiaxing. Major changes occurred in the Northern Song Dynasty. In the Northern Song Dynasty, Huating County was still under Xiuzhou, but Shanghai's land area began to grow, gradually moving toward the eastern sea, and Chongming Island slowly took shape. At that time, Huating County was bounded by the Songjiang River (present-day Wusong River) and belonged to Suzhou in the north and Xiuzhou in the south. On the south bank of the Songjiang River about to join the sea, a place name called Shanghai Service appeared.
