It is one of the marine valuable economic fishes, which can be caught in all offshore fishing grounds in China, among which the Ocean Island and Shidao fishing grounds are the main places of origin.
The pedal fish, the body side of the flat, tongue-shaped, generally body length of 25 to 40 centimeters, weight 500 to 1500 grams. The head is very short, the eyes are small, both eyes are on the left side of the head, the mouth is inferior, the muzzle is bent downward and backward in the shape of an arch, and the left and right are symmetrical. The scales are large, the eye side is covered with pectinate scales, light brown, with 2 lateral lines; the eye side is covered with round scales, white, without lateral lines. Posterior nostrils on the eyed side are located between the eyes. Dorsal and anal fins fully attached to caudal fin; no pectoral fins; caudal fin pointed.
