Legend has it that the seventh daughter of the Jade Emperor, the Weaver Girl, is enviable for her spirit, dexterity, and weaving. Therefore, women in the world worship her and pray for wisdom, dexterity and happiness. Therefore, there is the "Begging for Cleverness" activity on the seventh day of July every year, which forms the Begging for Cleverness Festival.

Festival legend

This festival is related to a fairy tale. Nineteen Ancient Poems by Han Yuefu said: "The Altair is far away, and the Jiaojiao River is a Chinese girl. Fine hands, make a loom. All day long, tears are like rain; The river is clear and shallow, how much is the difference! Ying Ying Yi Shui, the pulse is speechless. " What is described in the poem is the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl who are separated from each other and can only meet once a year.

According to legend, the Weaver Girl is the daughter of the Emperor of Heaven. She is not only beautiful, but also ingenious and good at threading needles. She is the embodiment of hard work, intelligence and kindness. As a result, the folk have the custom of begging for cleverness on Tanabata. On Tanabata night, families with girls usually put melons, fruits and needlework on them to beg the weaver girl to teach them skills such as weaving and embroidery.
