Opera is a well-known French dessert. It is a cake with a history of hundreds of years. The rich chocolate and coffee flavor in it makes everyone who loves chocolate and coffee obsessed with it. The traditional opera cake has six layers, including three layers of sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup, and a filling made of butter, fresh cream and chocolate cream. The whole cake is filled with the aroma of coffee and chocolate and melts in your mouth.
According to the cooking bible "Larousse Gourmet", it is defined as: Almond cream cake with coffee syrup and chocolate. The traditional 6-layer Opera is a symphony of taste that breaks through the senses: the movements of coffee syrup, chocolate sauce and almond sponge cake come and go, singing slowly on the tip of your tongue, making you sincerely excited and moved. After one sip, the soft and mellow aroma of coffee and chocolate, mixed with the softness of almond cake, melts in your mouth like a dream.
There are two different versions of the origin of Opera. One theory is that this dessert was originally a popular dessert developed by a French pastry coffee shop. Because it is so popular and the store is located next to the Opera House, we simply called this dessert Opera. Because the word "Opera" means "opera house" in French.
Another theory is that the Opera cake was first created in Dalloyau, a dessert shop that opened in 1890. Due to its square shape and a thin layer of chocolate drizzled on the surface, it looks like Much like the stage in an opera house, the gold foil dotted on the cake represents the Opera Garnier (the original name of the famous Paris Opera House), which is why it got its name.
