Breeding season of Portunus trituberculatus
The mating season is from April to May to early winter in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, and from March to April to11~1February in the coastal areas of Fujian. Except for sexually mature individuals, females who are not fully mature can sometimes accept mating. From April to May every year, female crabs migrate, gather in coastal shallow harbors or near estuaries to breed, and the fertilized eggs produced are held on the abdominal limbs of the abdomen. Each female crab can lay two or three eggs in the breeding season, with a total of several hundred thousand to two million eggs. The newly laid eggs are yellow and turn dark brown after about two weeks. It hatches into a pod-shaped larva, which lives in a floating life, with a period of ***5. After molting in the fifth stage, it enters the big-eyed larva stage, and then molts for 1 time to become a young crab, from small to about 20 molts. The average life span is about 3 years. Portunus trituberculatus grows rapidly, and its maximum weight can reach 0.5 kg. The swimming season of Portunus trituberculatus is twice a year in spring and autumn, with long fishing period, high yield, large body, delicious taste and rich nutrition, especially in ovary and liver. Ovary can be used as a superior condiment. In addition to fresh meat, it can also be canned and sold well at home and abroad. Shell can be used as medicine and chitin can be extracted, which is widely used in many industries. The annual output of the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea is about1~ 20,000 tons each. As the most important marine crab in China, it is of great economic significance. Similar species in the South China Sea and the East China Sea are Portunus P.pelagicus and Portunus rubra, which are common economic species in the South China Sea.
