The Chinese sturgeon belongs to the national second-class protected animals, but there are specialized breeding institutions, can also be raised at home, quite difficult to raise, the key lies in the water quality! And food, especially picky, a sturgeon only eat the Yangtze River fish and shrimp!
But if you are a home breeder, you won't have so much trouble if you start from a young age, just control the water quality, this guy is more sensitive than the average fish!
The price of this fish and weight proportional to the square, assuming that the fish is only 10 centimeters, that's more than 20 dollars, but to reach 1 meter, then it is estimated that tens of thousands of dollars, the largest striped sturgeon in Beijing, up to 4 meters! It is that it only eats fish from the Yangtze River~
The sturgeon is extremely bad to raise ah, and very valuable ~ you'd better send the protection center ~ don't let the little guy die ~ ~ don't just throw it in the river, not where the river water can feed this thing, too little ~ ~
The water temperature should be low, cleanliness of the water, the amount of molten oxygen to be relatively high
The sturgeon is a cold-water fish, the water temperature should be maintained at 14 degrees Below, it is very troublesome, generally feed shrimp, feed, breadworms can be fed, sturgeon can grow to more than 1 meter
For sturgeon, 15-20 ℃ water temperature is the most suitable, because the juvenile fish is about 6-8 months after hatching from the river to the aquarium to feed, so it is necessary to pay special attention to its feeding methods, the following one by one to introduce to you:
1.Select healthy sturgeon
When there is a difference in the size of the fish in the same category, it is not necessary to consider the size of the fish, so you should choose the larger fish. In recent years, there has been a tendency to import smaller fish, but there is concern about their ability to withstand the rigors of transportation and changes in water quality. Therefore, it is best to choose larger fish. In addition, you need to consider the size of the aquarium and your budget. It is best to keep several fish at the same time so that they can feed more actively, and of course, the number of fish should be increased as well as the number of food bait.
2. Setting up an aquarium for sturgeon
The length of the aquarium should be at least 60 centimeters, and if possible, an aquarium that is 70-95 centimeters in length and depth would be preferable, but the one that has a large bottom area should be the one that is prioritized, and the bottom sand can be silica sand or fine coral sand. In terms of water quality, although hard water is not necessary, if you use drinking water, the sturgeon will be susceptible to disease. Therefore, the use of sand should be avoided to cause changes in the water quality of the large sand.
The filter should be a submerged power filter, and the filter material should be ceramic filter beads or other effective sand with strong filtration. Although the motor attached to the submerged filter, the water flow is too strong for other fish, but for sturgeon has a good effect, the sturgeon in the aquarium not only like the water flow, but also like to flow in a certain direction, with a strong water flow, often slow-swimming sturgeon can be helped by its power.
Is it necessary to mix seawater in the aquarium? If the aquarium is less than 20 centimeters long, it can be kept in pure freshwater, but adding 1/4 or 1/3 seawater will ensure that the fish will be less susceptible to disease. Of course, it is possible to use good quality artificial seawater to replace the seawater.
3. Importance of water temperature management
The most important thing in keeping sturgeon for a long period of time is to maintain proper water temperature. Generally speaking, sturgeon is suitable for water temperature of 15-20℃, if it is over 30℃, sturgeon will die, if it is below 10℃, it will lead to poor appetite. Therefore, in the winter, you can install a heater to keep the water temperature stable, and the more annoying is to deal with in the summer.
From mid-July to mid-September, it is not uncommon for the water in the aquarium to be over 30℃, or even 34℃. If you are traveling with your whole family, you will not be able to keep sturgeon at this temperature, so you will have to use an aquarium cooler or air conditioner at home. An aquarium cooler can keep 100 kilograms to 1 ton of water at a temperature of less than 10 degrees Celsius, and when placed horizontally under the sink, it is not very visible because of its small size. The problem is that this type of device is not very common, so you can imagine how expensive it is. In addition, the heat emitted is often discharged into the room, and sometimes, in order to reduce the temperature of the water in the aquarium to less than 15 ℃, the temperature in the room exceeds 35 ℃. Therefore, if you want to keep the water temperature in the aquarium below 25℃ in summer, you can strengthen the air conditioner in the room and change the water frequently, or use the air conditioner to keep the temperature in the room between 23-25℃. It would be great if fish fans could have a dedicated room, but if you don't have specialized equipment and want to keep sturgeon well, you have to rely on the above methods.
4. Bait
Sturgeon love animal bait and eat a lot of it. Young fish can be fed to frozen small fish or sea creatures, raw bait can choose earthworms or red worms, etc., when the body of the fish more than 25 centimeters long, it should be changed to feed the larger bait, such as frozen or de-salted sea creatures. For duckbill sturgeon, they can grow up to 50 centimeters in length by feeding only earthworms.
The duckbill sturgeon can grow to 50 cm, the West German sturgeon can reach 30 cm, but growth to this stage, the fish will often be inexplicable sudden death, which is very much related to the feeding of the water quality, at this time, should be replaced with a large aquarium of more than 180 centimeters, if necessary, can be used to feed the FRP of the big pools of the brook trout, in addition, the fish need to be a higher concentration of salts, if the water salinity adjusted up to 1/2 to 1/3, the fish are less likely to fall ill.
The fish are less likely to get sick if the salt level in the water is adjusted up by 1/2 to 1/3.
Because of the large equipment required to raise sturgeon, it is best not to raise too large sturgeon species, after all, there are few large-scale equipment, so it is recommended to raise sturgeon species with a growth limit of 50 centimeters.
