The Bauhinia statue in Hong Kong is not made of gold, but of bronze. On July 1, 1997, the People's Republic of China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong and established the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The central government donated a golden bauhinia bronze sculpture to Hong Kong and placed it in the new wing of the newly completed Convention and Exhibition Center at the square facing the harbor. The official name of the sculpture is "Eternally Blooming Bauhinia", which means that Hong Kong will always be prosperous
