Purple bamboo is also called black bamboo and black bamboo. The height of the culm is 3 ~10 m and the diameter is 2 ~ 4 cm. The new stalk has fine hairs and is green, the old stalk turns purple or brown-black, and the stalk is ring-shaped. Branchlets have 2 ~ 3 leaves at the top, lanceolate, 4 ~ 10 cm long, tapering and thin at the top, with fine hairs at the bottom. The bamboo shoot period is from April to May. Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Anhui, Henan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Guizhou and other places are all distributed, and there are wild Phyllostachys pubescens in southern Hunan.
Variety: Dan Zhu: also known as Mao Jinzhu. The height of the culm is 7 ~ 18m, and the wall thickness is green to grayish green. It has certain cold tolerance and can withstand the low temperature of-18℃. The stems are purple-black, which is more suitable for garden planting.
