Synopsis:

A city in the early eighties. Liu Hongchang, a young man working in a state-run canteen, falls in love with Wenhui, who has given up the chance to go to university because of her poor family. Although Liu Hongchang's mother and brother tried to stop him, Liu Hongchang married Wenhui. Wen Hui's younger brother, Wen Tao, and younger sister, Wen Yuan, were also hostile to her brother-in-law. After Wen Hui became pregnant for the second time, the family was struck by a disaster. Seventeen year old Wen Yuan left home because of a bet with Liu Hongchang, and was raped by his street gangster, Big Yellow Cat. In order to avenge his sister's death, sixteen-year-old Wen Tao stabbed and killed Big Yellow Cat. Wen Hui suffered from this strong stimulus bleeding to death in the hospital. A series of family changes so that Liu Hongchang can only grief y repressed in the bottom of the heart, to carry the stormy home.

Many years later, Wenda went to college; while Yu Qiuhua was killed in an accidental car accident. In order to fulfill his promise in the last moments of the life of Qiu Hua, Liu Hongchang guarded a hut, silently waiting for the return of relatives.
