Origin. According to legend, the annual meeting of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl on the Magpie Bridge is on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. Because the Weaver Girl has a pair of skillful hands that can weave clouds, the folk girls hope to see the aura of the Weaver Girl, so they "seek cleverness" on the Tanabata of that day. Tanabata is still a traditional festival full of romance today. However, many customs have weakened or disappeared, and only the legend of Cowherd and Weaver Girl, which symbolizes loyal love, has been circulated among the people.
