Lianwu is a Taiwanese term, the mainland is called "foreign bushy peaches". The scientific name Syzygium. samarangense (Bl.) Merr. et Perry, is a tropical fruit tree in the genus Myrtaceae. Lian Wu is native to the Malay Peninsula and the Andaman Islands, and is now commonly cultivated in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Taiwan, as well as Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, and southern Fujian on the mainland. In the seventeenth century, the lotus seedling was introduced to Taiwan by the Dutch, and was initially planted as an ornamental tree in gardens until recent decades when it was promoted to one of the most important economic fruit trees in Taiwan due to reforms in management techniques.
