Liu Yonghao: responsibility, commitment, innovation is the key element of entrepreneurial spirit

He, starting from scratch, more than 30 years to build China's private enterprises "evergreen tree"; he, with the times, created a modern agriculture as the core, the combination of production and financing of a comprehensive enterprise group; he, not forgetting the original intention, to train 100,000 new farmers and agricultural technicians, with practical action to help revitalize the countryside.

He is the founder of New Hope Group, Liu Yonghao.

As the earliest batch of private entrepreneurs in China, Liu Yonghao witnessed the whole process of the group of private entrepreneurs from scratch to become an important force in China's economic development. In the just concluded 2020 Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum 16th Summer Summit, he emphasized that entrepreneurs should have greater responsibility and bear.

Now, facing the impact of the new Crown pneumonia epidemic and the international and domestic economic situation, the impact of the dual impact of the environment, the test of the economic downward pressure continues to increase, Liu Yonghao in the just-concluded 2020 Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum sixteenth summer summit, emphasized that enterprises must have the responsibility and bear the responsibility of the enterprise, while at the same time, the need to improve the enterprise's innovation, adaptability and competitiveness, to accelerate the pace of business transformation. The transformation of the footsteps of enterprises.

According to the New Hope 2020 half-yearly report, New Hope realized operating income of 44.696 billion yuan in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 26.64%; attributable to shareholders of listed companies, net profit of 3.164 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 102.57%; deduction of non-net profit of 3.284 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 97.58%.

Epidemic business is also good for Liu Yonghao to fulfill his social responsibility to provide the bottom line. Liu Yonghao said, the new hope will be in the epidemic in Hubei increased investment of 20 billion yuan, directly expanding the number of workers up to 2,000 people. In addition, the new hope will also expand investment in Qingdao, including the establishment of agro-ecological industrial parks, upgrading cold chain logistics.

Liu Yonghao has always emphasized and practiced corporate social responsibility, which is an important connotation of entrepreneurship as he understands it. As early as a few years ago, Liu Yonghao put forward the new hope of the "five new" transformation, which has a new responsibility: 2019, 2020, 2021 three years to achieve the goal of more than 10,000 new employees each year. After the epidemic, Liu Yonghao increased this year's new employment target: at least 20,000 new jobs.

Liu Yonghao believes that for those affected by the epidemic and difficult to employ migrant workers and college students, leading private enterprises should shoulder a greater responsibility and bear.

Currently, enterprises are facing the challenge of accelerated transformation

Public Welfare Times: Under the impact of the double impact of the international and domestic economic situation and environment after the new coronary pneumonia epidemic, what difficulties and problems are entrepreneurs facing?

Liu Yonghao: First, for many enterprises, how to cross the life and death line is a test. The new crown pneumonia epidemic on the business impact is very large, small and medium-sized enterprises, and even the oldest enterprises, and even the giant enterprises have declared bankruptcy, closure. In particular, the impact on the catering, tourism, aviation, film and television, and service industries is even greater, and has not yet been fully recovered.

Secondly, the acceleration of the new Crown Pneumonia epidemic and the rise of anti-globalization thinking have made the international political, economic, and environmental conditions face great uncertainty. Entrepreneurs have encountered unprecedented challenges, with some orders for foreign sales being canceled, and some companies forced to stop work, reduce staff, and so on. The uncertainty of foreign trade requires us to look for more endogenous power.

Third, the ongoing economic restructuring and upgrading and the transformation and development of enterprises, is at a critical moment, this time the big test of the country and the enterprise's wisdom and resilience is a serious test.

Public Welfare Times: In light of the above issues, how should entrepreneurs respond to the challenges and improve their ability to innovate and adapt?

Liu Yonghao: Firstly, enterprises should have the responsibility to take the lead in helping the economy restart after the epidemic, and contribute to the "six stabilizers" and "six guarantees" to form an important force. The first is that the company has to take the lead in helping the economy to restart after the epidemic.

Second, the test is also about the competitiveness of enterprises. The transformation and upgrading of our enterprises is accelerating, some digital enterprises, Internet enterprises, high-tech enterprises, is through the rapid development of scientific and technological armament, the process of large enterprises to do more and more, the head effect is more and more obvious.

Third, the traditional industry can use the thinking of the industrial Internet for reengineering. In recent years, enterprises have upgraded the digitalization of industry, which is not only a need for the development of an industry, but also a need for the survival of the industry in the future. Digital transformation can bring a turnaround in times of crisis, as well as a continuous injection of power on the road to the pursuit of long-term development goals.

Taking New Hope as an example, with the great development of pig farming, we started to upgrade pig houses, and now 3-story, 5-story, and 6-story building-style pig houses have been put into use. At the same time, we use the latest 5G facilities to intelligently control the lights, temperature and air quality of the pigsties, automate the delivery of water and feed, and adopt unmanned guarding and management, all of which rely on the value of science and technology and intelligent reengineering. I think this is an opportunity for Chinese enterprises nowadays, and we have to actively explore in this pattern and utilize new technologies and capabilities to promote and upgrade the transformation and upgrading of enterprises. My advice to those small and micro enterprises is to transform as early as possible, and to take the first opportunity with digital transformation to bring new development.

Under the epidemic, it is the biggest responsibility to protect the supply

Public Welfare Times

Public Welfare Times New Hope: How is New Hope's recovery situation in all aspects since the epidemic?

Liu Yonghao: The epidemic has had a certain impact on New Hope Group, including the supply chain disruption. We are a meat, egg and milk producer, producing more than 4 million tons a year, including pork, chicken, duck, beef, milk and so on, which is a necessity for the people, and also a guaranteed supply of products. We have taken a lot of measures to basically tide over the difficulties.

We took the lead in resuming production and mobilized all our forces, and now it seems that we are basically unaffected, and on the contrary, we have also increased our production. Especially due to the impact of African swine fever, the gap between the supply and demand of hogs is relatively large, and the price has risen three times.

In order to maintain supply, we have dramatically increased our farming efforts across the country, and we are using an environmentally intelligent 5S approach to pig farming that uses fewer people, less land, less water, and less pollution. We are actively promoting the preservation of breeding, the transformation of production and industry, and the reengineering of the industrial Internet within agriculture. So we are turning a crisis into an opportunity to seek new development.

Industrial poverty alleviation project of New Hope Sixth Harmony

Public Welfare Times: In the next three years, New Hope Group is going to increase its investment in Hubei, and it will invest 20 billion yuan to help Hubei to fight poverty, can you talk about the original intention of this major decision and the direction of its specific implementation?

Liu Yonghao: The agreement we signed will invest 20 billion yuan in Hubei, including agriculture, food and other areas. Specifically, New Hope will raise more than 4 million pigs in Hubei, adding about 4,000 new jobs of all kinds, including students, and planning to drive upstream and downstream employment of more than 20,000 people. It will help Hubei Province to fight poverty and revitalize its economy, and at the same time promote the industrial transformation and upgrading as well as the high-quality economic and social development of Hubei.

On the other hand, we will establish New Hope's central China headquarters in Wuhan, and have already signed an agreement with the relevant district in Wuhan. We hope that the central China headquarters will develop in food agriculture, urban and rural manufacturing and smart city and smart rural construction.

We are more optimistic about Hubei based on these points: first, Hubei has excellent location and convenient transportation; second, Hubei has a lot of talents and is one of the places with the most college students in the country. Wuhan is said to have the highest total number of universities, laying a talent base for economic transformation and the development of the new economy; third, during the epidemic, the state introduced a number of preferential policies to Hubei, reducing the comprehensive factor costs in Hubei. Hubei's labor costs are relatively low, the cost of transportation is not high, and the cost of land acquisition is the same, so it is conducive to attracting external investment.

Responsibility, commitment and innovation are the key elements of entrepreneurship

The Public Interest Times: You once said that if you traveled back in time, you'd still choose to do agriculture. What is the core motivation for you to stick to agriculture? What is the basis for development?

Yonghao Liu: If I traveled back in time, I would still choose to do agriculture. The difference is that I would have used the capabilities of science and technology earlier, including biotechnology, digital technology, to carry out the re-engineering of agriculture.

In my opinion, agriculture is related to people's livelihood. The economic impact of this new coronary pneumonia epidemic is very great, but our demand for food has not been reduced, which means that agriculture is an industry of people's livelihood. On the other hand, agriculture is a living industry. Whether it is food crops, or pigs, chickens, cows, or sheep, they all have lives, and we need to care for these lives.

I started my business to make my family's life better, and later to make our employees' life better, and the upstream and downstream industry chains better. We now put forward "hope for a better life", is to let the people of the country can enjoy the progress of modern agriculture, to realize the "pork freedom".

I think agriculture has both economic value and social value. Although the investment in agriculture is high, the risk is high, and the cycle fluctuation is also big, but someone has to do it, and we are already on this track. I'm familiar with it and understand it, so it's right that we continue to stick to agriculture.

Public Interest Times: What kind of entrepreneurship do you have in mind? In your opinion, what is entrepreneurship? What spiritual qualities do you think a good entrepreneur should have?

Liu Yonghao: Some people say that entrepreneurial spirit is not afraid of suffering, hardworking, able to struggle, not afraid of difficulties. This is right, but I personally believe that, in addition to these, first of all, we must have the social responsibility, to be able to lead everyone. Take charge of how to do a good job in my business, how to lead the staff, lead the team. When difficulties and problems arise in the company, we should dare to come forward, and at the same time, we should lead by example and be able to assume responsibility. At the same time, entrepreneurs should let the market, society, the people agree, but also good at dealing with employees, managers, upstream and downstream supply chain relationship; secondly, we must have curiosity, curiosity is a person progress or exploration of a power.

In fact, entrepreneurship is embodied in the responsibility, commitment, innovation and hard work, and embodied in the wisdom, emotional intelligence and IQ, but also embodied in the ability to deal with the government, the market, the supply chain, the relationship between employees. When these relationships are handled well, the business is smooth, less problems, and vice versa, more difficulties and stress. Entrepreneurs also have to deal with sudden changes in events, especially like the African swine fever or the new crown pneumonia epidemic brought about by the changes.
