Dongting Lake was called Yunmeng, Jiujiang and Chonghu in ancient times. He is located in the south bank of Jingjiang River in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, which spans Yueyang County, Changde Anxiang, Henan County and other counties and cities. The name of Dongting Lake began in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and it was named after Dongting Mountain in the lake. Dongting Lake receives water from Songzi, Taiping, Hetang and Tiaoxian of the Yangtze River. South Hexi Street knows each other, and some small tributaries flow into the Yangtze River from Chenglingji, Yueyang City. Dongting Lake was once called 800-mile Dongting Lake in ancient times. In the 1990s, it was estimated by the water conservancy department that its area was about 2,500 square kilometers. Together with the Yangtze River 1.300 square kilometers, there are more than 3,800 square kilometers, including 1.78 cubic meters of natural lakes.
Lakes in Hunan Province and Hubei Province refer to Dongping Lake. Hunan and Hubei were originally named Huguangxing Province, which means the vast area north and south of Dongting Lake. Because of the location of Dongting Lake, Hubei Province is named Hubei Province, which is located in the north of Dongting Lake, so Hunan Province is located in the south of Dongting Lake, so his name is Hunan Province. Now Dongting Lake is in Hunan, but in the past. However, this is not the case. The division of Hunan and Hubei feelings originated in the Song Dynasty, when it was divided into Jinghu North Road and Jinghu South Road. This road is a provincial administrative division.
In the Ming Dynasty, the two provinces merged into the Chief Secretary of Huguang. In the Qing Dynasty, Changde and Yueyang, which were separated from Huguang, were promoted to counties, but they were placed in Hunan, so Changde dialect is now very similar to Jingzhou dialect.
