Many famous projects are hosted on GitHub, such as JQuery, RoR, python. Why is it important for programming? As a programmer, programming is the main task. Is the largest project library in the world important? The richest code base is not important.
So Github is really important, otherwise Microsoft wouldn't have spent $7.5 billion to acquire Github.
