"Being so poor at home, it's natural that I can't raise my children materially ... but I'm especially grateful to my parents for teaching me three things with their words and deeds. These are the three most precious gifts they gave me. "

Thinking is respect for yourself.
My family is a typical one-worker family, which is called "half-family" in rural areas. My father was a primary school teacher and later became a principal, while my mother was busy at home. He often lives in school from Monday to Friday, and rolls up his sleeves at home on weekends and goes to work in the fields.
Supposedly, this kind of family should not be too poor, but I don't know why, our family is very poor, even poorer than many families whose parents are farmers, especially when I was young. Maybe my grandfather died too early, and when my mother got married, my family was so poor that I often went to my grandmother's house to get oil and rice.
One of the things that impressed me most when I was a child was that when I went to my grandmother's house, I always carried an empty basket, and when I came back, it was always full. When I was in elementary school, I wore patched pants. Once, I was very greedy for plum blossoms in the canteen, asking for 3 cents. I desperately saved and saved a bunch of pennies, and rushed into the canteen to count them. I was still two points short. The proprietress might see my pity and say that two cents would be enough.
As the family is so poor, it is natural that it is impossible to raise children materially. In fact, it is difficult to even raise them carefully. After all, there are so many farm work to do.
But I am especially grateful to my parents for teaching me three things with their words and deeds. These are the three most precious gifts they gave me.
2
The first thing my parents taught me was that people should read more books.
I believe that 9% of parents will instill this truth in their children, but they usually just say that if you let them read books by themselves, most of them would rather play cards and chat.
My mother loves reading books. She loves reading all kinds of books, even the recipes. Now that she is old, she still reads for a while before going to bed every night. When I was a child, books were scarce, but I could always find a few printed books at home, such as periodicals such as Short Stories and Selected Publications of Miniature Novels, and some incomplete novels by San Mao and Qiong Yao.
Mom has a very good memory. After reading the book, she will tell us stories. Her storytelling level is first-class. That's a vivid story. I still remember that the story of Liancheng was originally told to me by her. When I heard that Ling Shuanghua was buried alive by her father, my hair stood on end.
So, I have loved reading since I was very young. After reading it, I injected my own fabrication and told it to my brother. His favorite thing was the Wesley series. At that time, we all wanted to explore the universe.
Dad doesn't like reading so much, but he will spare some money from his meager salary to subscribe to magazines for me. I subscribe to Youth Literature and Art every year, and sometimes I subscribe to Science Fiction World and Children's Literature. In the age of lack of spirit, these magazines open a window for me to understand the world.
I also have an uncle who loves martial arts novels and always has the ability to borrow books from outside. Thanks to my uncle, let me read through Jin Yong, Gu Long and Liang Yusheng as a pupil.
when I grow up, I am always asked two questions about reading.
Modern people are so busy, how can they keep reading?
I don't like reading since I was a child. For people who love reading, reading is as natural as eating and sleeping. No matter how busy you are, you still have time to eat and sleep, right?
among the vast number of books, how to choose the one that suits you?
In my opinion, it is much more important to cultivate children's reading habits than to open a bibliography for children. Let children read whatever they like. Adults are the same. After reading too many books, you naturally know what suits you.
The sooner you really get into the habit of reading, the better. Parents want their children to love reading, just take the lead in picking up a book to read.

The second thing my parents taught me is that people should keep learning.
This study does not mean studying hard at school, but refers to a person's ability to accept new things and grow constantly.
My mother is such a person with a particularly strong learning ability. To give a simple example, as a native of Hunan, she immediately found out the practices of various local ingredients after she arrived in Guangdong. She ate okra in a restaurant once and immediately bought seeds back. Now, in my garden, okra grows luxuriantly. People in Fiona Fang for miles have never seen this kind of vegetable, so they have come to visit.
Thanks to my mother, some fresh dishes will pop up at our dinner table from time to time. When she eats something delicious at her relatives' home, she always asks about the recipe and comes back to cook it.
Wang Zengqi said that a person's taste should be wider and more miscellaneous, and "sweet in the south, salty in the north, spicy in the east and sour in the west" should be tasted. This is true for food, and it should be true for culture.
Thanks to my mother, I have cultivated my inclusive "good appetite".
Our family is one of the few people in the village who took the lead in installing broadband. My parents learned to use smart phones very early. My father likes to send me all kinds of health knowledge. What my mother likes to do recently is to send my articles in various groups. After my dad retired, he wanted to get his career back, and he was planning to go to Chengdu to contract the canteen with others. Although I think he is too old to toss about, I admire his spirit of being brave in trying.
In their world, it seems that there has never been a concept of "this is very difficult, I can't learn". When they encounter something, they will try it with great interest as long as they find it interesting. This kind of spirit sometimes makes me feel ashamed.
the spirit of never standing still is the second gift they gave me.

The third thing my parents taught me is that people should be kind to others.
My father is the kind of person who has a lot of friends. Men, women and children get along with him. I am very envious of this, and I once humbly asked him for tips.
Dad thought about it and told me, "If you want to have more friends, you are just willing to suffer and be good to others."
The last time we were in our hometown, we were having dinner, and a neighbor came running in, clutching his bleeding finger, begging for a band-aid. My dad is busy going upstairs to get it. In a short time, I took out two band-AIDS, one of which immediately bandaged my neighbor's finger and the other let her take it back to replace it.
The next day, he accidentally cut his finger while working, but he couldn't bandage it, because the only two band-AIDS were given to his neighbors last night.
from this little incident, I can't help but feel deeply that my father is really better than me in life. If I were you, I might only give a band-aid, and I wouldn't think of giving an extra one for others to replace.
On another occasion, my mother went to an aunt's house to borrow something, but she didn't borrow it, and was bitten by the dog who was watching the door. Her first reaction was to keep quiet and go to town to get rabies vaccine. Later, the aunt knew about it, and my mother didn't want the money to give her a vaccination. The reason was that the family was very economical and she couldn't bear to let others spend money.
parents are far better than our brothers and sisters in dealing with people. It's easy to be kind to others once, but it's hard to stick to it all my life. I still need to keep up with them.

Material poverty is indeed a defect, but good education sometimes has little to do with material things.
Whether a couple can cultivate their children into useful people often depends not on material things, but on love and ideas. Therefore, the real education is about dad, not money. For children, example is far better than words. Instead of chasing the school district, it is better to make yourself a good example for children.
My parents probably didn't expect that I didn't listen to the "1, educational bibles" they usually instilled in me, but their words and deeds in life had a great influence on me.
Although they didn't have much money, they taught me the habit of reading, an open mind, and a belief in being kind to others. Of course, they are not perfect parents, and they have shortcomings, big and small. Fortunately, these three gifts they gave me are enough to benefit me for life. ■
