What is the salt we eat extracted from?
As the most common condiment in life, salt is also an indispensable substance for human body. So today we won't talk about recipes. Today, let's enrich our knowledge and talk about how the salt we usually eat is produced.

Where does the salt come from?

We usually use mine salt and sea salt.

Jingyan salt

Well salt refers to the salt mined from underground through mining, and most countries will use convection to mine salt. This method takes advantage of the fact that salt is soluble in water. First, drill a well in the rock.

Then run two layers of casing, fix the outer casing with cement, and then inject water into the well from the inner casing. When the rock stratum is dissolved, use another pipe to flush the brine with dissolved salt, and then remove the impurities in the brine first.

Then the brine is evaporated by vacuum evaporation or hot-pressing evaporation to separate out salt. This method has a high degree of mechanization and low cost, and is the first choice for modernization and mechanization in many countries.

sea salt

Sea salt, as its name implies, is the salt in seawater. The production of sea salt generally adopts the solarization method. A salt field is opened on the beach, and then seawater enters the evaporation pool and evaporates into brine after solarization.

The concentration of brine will be higher and higher until it becomes saturated brine, and then with long-term evaporation, salt will be precipitated in the form of crystals.

Seawater is the hometown of salt. Seawater contains all kinds of salt, about 90% of which is NaCl, that is, salt. In addition, it also contains other salts of various elements such as potassium, iodine and sodium. A large part of the salt used in our daily life is extracted from seawater.

Then everyone will ask: Where does the salt in seawater come from?

The ocean is formed by the confluence of countless rivers. In the process of flowing, rivers will pass through all kinds of soil and rock strata, decompose and produce all kinds of salt substances, and bring them into the ocean with the water flow.

Seawater is constantly evaporated by sunlight and other factors, but the salt substance in it will not evaporate, so the salt concentration is getting higher and higher.

Seawater contains many elements needed by human body, but most of these elements are too high, which exceeds the normal content needed by human body. If you drink it directly, it may lead to dehydration or even poisoning, thus threatening people's lives, so don't drink seawater!

What kind of salt do we usually eat?

The salt we usually eat belongs to edible refined salt. However, both refined salt and crude salt are processed from well salt and sea salt, and different regions have different salt extraction methods. For example, coastal areas generally extract salt.

Well salt and sea salt will be transported to the salt processing plant. There is a whole set of processing lines in the workshop, and the salt will be transported to the packaging workshop by bags.

From here on, salt will be further processed, and it will also be classified according to the different qualities of salt. It is processed by pure physical technology, including washing, centrifugation, dehydration, drying, screening, color sorter, impurity removal, iodination and packaging. The whole production process should be carried out in strict accordance with the technical specifications for quality management of salt production enterprises.

Good-quality salt will be packaged by machine after twice deep processing, and quality inspectors will conduct random inspection according to the specified requirements. Each batch of products will only be sold out of the warehouse after reaching the product quality standards, and will be sold as edible salt in shopping malls.

Other relatively common salts are automatically processed and packaged by machines and then used for other purposes through another production line.
