Chinese name: Flying Fish Festival: April to August every year. Popular areas: the origin of festivals in alpine areas: introduction, origin and classification of sacrifices, fishing sacrifices in big boats, fishing sacrifices in rich boats and fishing sacrifices in small boats. Flying fish belong to passeriformes, live on the surface of warm waters and are migratory fish. There are about 8 genera and more than 50 species of flying fish in the world, but there are 4 genera and 2 1 species in Taiwan Province waters. The pectoral fins of flying fish are particularly developed, spreading like wings, and can jump tens of meters on the water. The scales of flying fish are large and thin, and the pectoral fins are translucent. When flying fish flock to shelter from the wind on the sea, the scales reflect sunlight and are dazzling. At night, fishing boats light torches, flying fish follow the light, moonlight and fire complement each other, and flying fish also reflect beautiful light. Such a magnificent sight, it is no wonder that Yamei thinks flying fish is a gift from God. Every year from the beginning of March to the end of September, a large number of flying fish migrate to the offshore of Lan Yu with the Kuroshio in the Pacific Ocean. There are many typhoons after July, and March-June is the peak season for Yamei people to catch flying fish. It is said that flying fish is a gift from the gods to Yamei. Yamei ancestors used to get sick by eating different kinds of fish. Later, the kind black fin flying fish taught Yamei how to recruit, catch, identify and cook all kinds of flying fish. All kinds of factors make Yamei particularly cautious about flying fish, and cooperate with various ceremonies such as fishing, cooking and sun exposure to ensure foolproof. Because of this psychological complex of flying fish, flying fish has become the core of Yamei culture. Yamei spends13 of a year fishing for flying fish, and various taboos and rituals related to flying fish dominate Yamei's life. In order to pray for the creator to give people rich food, after the ceremony of attracting fish from the big ship opened the prelude to catching flying fish, the first fish from the big ship, the members of the fishing group returned to the team, the day fishing in the small boat, the final sacrifice of flying fish, the collection sacrifice of flying fish and the final sacrifice of flying fish were successively launched. These ceremonies related to flying fish are collectively called "Flying Fish Festival". Originated from the traditional ceremony of Yamei, an aborigine, rewarding the flying fish king and praying for a rich catch. Originated from myth: Yami people hunt flying fish for a living. The world they live in, Lan Yu Island, is the only place where the Kuroshio warm current in the Pacific Ocean passes, and there are a lot of fish, especially flying fish. According to legend, in ancient times, Yamei's ancestors dreamed of the sudden arrival of the black flying fish king, and told them the fishing season, fishing waters, fishing methods and related taboos. Yamei's ancestors regarded it as a good omen, and went to sea as instructed, and sure enough, they returned with a full load. From then on, the flying fish began to hunt flying fish, have ample food and clothing, and repay the flying fish king with a grand sacrifice. At the same time, they set a ban, and they will abide by the attacks from generation to generation. Flying fish is prohibited from March to 10 every year during the fishing season, which lasts intermittently for 10 months. The ceremony is complicated and there are many taboos. According to the fishing plan, in the fishing season of about three or four weeks, the fleet was organized to go out to sea at night according to tribes, and ceremonies such as fish recruitment, abundant fishing, first night, novelty tasting and dissolution were held successively. The crew wore silver helmets and vests, and made blood for new boats, fishing gear, torches, bamboo tubes, etc. Singing songs calling for fish, praying to God to make the fish full, jumping around the boat and shouting exorcism. Crew members should live in collective accommodation, and fences should be set up in the accommodation to prevent the invasion of evil spirits and prohibit contact with the opposite sex. When you taste new fish for the first time, you must pay homage to the fish spirit, reward the gods and thank your ancestors. In April, the fleet was dissolved, the wind fence was removed, the crew went home to eat and live, and the family went fishing in the sea during the day until June. During this period, ceremonies such as day fishing, day eating and day storage were held. In addition to cooking boats and fishing gear as usual, three flying fish were cooked with fresh water, and the family prayed silently for dinner. The dried fish were put in the jar as food. On July 1 day, fishing stopped, and every family cleaned the yard, slaughtered a goat and held the last sacrifice. Fish is forbidden in October, and dried fish are kept indoors. After the last meal, the rest is thrown into the wild to show "the last food". During the period of sacrifice and fishing, we should strictly abide by the taboos of no * * *, no cross-border fishing, no disembowelling when cooking and eating fish, no throwing stones into the sea, no making noise and laughing, no eating fish, beans, ginger, oranges and so on in the field. The classification boat fishing festival is held in February and March every year, which is intended to invite flying fish and pray for a bumper harvest. Traditionally, around the old calendar year, elders watched the full moon and decided the date for each tribe to hold the "Fish Festival". Because it is said that the flying fish was first discovered by the Red Head Tribe, the Red Head Tribe first held a "Fish Festival" to take the lead in fishing in the sea as a courtesy. When the "Fish Attraction Festival" is going on, it is forbidden for women to watch it, otherwise it will bring disaster. At the dawn of the Flying Fish Festival on March 1, all the big ships with more than 6 people gathered at the seaside, and the participants sat on the boat wearing silver helmets, gold pieces and costumes. The captains of the ships held short knives and chanted sacrifices loudly, praying for God's blessing and a bumper harvest of flying fish. Each boat kills a chicken, and the captain takes the chicken to the sea to attract fish, hoping that flying fish can flock to the sea in front of the tribe. Pouring the chicken blood into a wooden dish filled with seawater, the crew points the chicken blood on the black pebbles with their forefinger, indicating that the harvested fish will live with the stones for a long time, and pray that they can live a long life and that future generations can always use the port to fish. The captain took out 33 small bamboo tubes and painted them with chicken blood for future fishing. The crew waved their silver helmets and screamed to drive away evil spirits. After the ceremony at sea, the ship owners each picked up five sharp stones and placed them next to the fishing rod, shaking them, symbolizing that the fish rack was shaking because it was full of flying fish, which meant praying for a bumper harvest. The rope for hanging flying fish is only allowed to be hit with these five stone heads, and it is forbidden to cut it with a knife. After the big boat fishing festival, everyone went back to the camp for collective accommodation, prepared torches, repaired fishing gear and put fences around the camp. In the past, the shared camp was built outside the village, but later, you can choose a house with more than three crew members as a shared house. On the morning of March 2, the captain came to the beach with his crew and fishing gear. Everyone grabbed the sand and threw it into the cabin, shouting "countless fish have entered the warehouse." Then, sprinkle the seawater into the warehouse with both hands and kindly say to the ship, "Ship, take us to the place where there are the most flying fish." The crew returned home, drying fishing rods and fishing gear with their own sacrifices. On the evening of March 3, the first fishing festival, fishing boats can go out to sea to fish. People think that the first catch indicates the abundance of fish in a whole year, so they pay special attention to it and hold a grand ceremony when fishing boats leave port. The crew of the big ship who led the sea collectively worshipped a pig and prayed for a safe and bumper harvest in the whole society. The first ship is usually chosen by turns. The crew who successfully showed off their wealth in the launching ceremony of the new ship will naturally be impressed, and his ship will become the first one. After the first ship was sacrificed, it slowly sailed out of the port and the rest of the ships set sail in turn. On the night of the sacrificial ceremony, after each boat caught the first flying fish, the captain put the small bamboo tube fish stained with chicken blood in his mouth, hung the fish high on the bow and prayed for the fish to come in droves. The fish caught that night can't be taken home, so we should stay on the boat and pray with blood, and then bring it back to the camp the next morning. From then on, the crew began a one-month collective life, fishing at night, staying in the camp during the day, and putting all the caught fish into the camp. Flying fish can't be eaten without sacrifice. People bring flying fish back, put silver helmets and gold coins on them, pray and cook. Flying fish can't be eviscerated, but it must be cooked completely and cleanly. Don't pinch your head and tail when you eat, pick and choose, you can only eat one by one. On the morning of April 1, the crew of the same ship group ate taro and flying fish in the camp, distributed the flying fish caught last month after dinner, then disbanded and went home with flying fish. After that, the crew can stay in their homes during the day and continue fishing with everyone at night. On the morning of May 1, people who want to go out to sea get up early and set up a fish drying rack, praying that the fish drying rack is full of dried fish. Then he came to his boat, squatted at the stern and prayed, and then threw the flat black pebbles into the fish tank at the stern, symbolizing that fish are often thrown into the fish tank during the fish season. After this festival, every small fishing boat can go out to sea to catch flying fish. Boat Day Fishing Festival The boat day fishing festival will be held after the fishing festival. Small fishing boats can catch fish every day, and they can catch other fish besides flying fish. After that, housewives can dry their catch and keep it until October and a half. The Flying Fish Day Food Festival was held on May 17. All the men dressed up, got a pot of seawater and a pot of fresh water, boiled the flying fish when they got back, and had dinner with their families after praying. Since then, the time and sex restrictions on eating fish have been abolished, and both men and women can eat fish day and night. The Flying Fish Collection Festival was held on June 22nd. On this day, housewives will cook a flying fish and taro together. After cooking, put it on the next morning and share it with the whole family after prayer. Then you can take down the dried flying fish and collect them in a clay pot. The last sacrifice of flying fish was held on July 1 day, and the fishing of flying fish stopped after this sacrifice. On that day, the man strung the tail of the big fish caught this year, usually tuna, and hung it on the beach, indicating that from that day on, he stopped fishing flying fish and fished other fish. The fishing groups pushed the big ship back to the boathouse to gather. Flying Fish Festival Then every man goes to the pasture to catch a goat, and women go to the fields to pick taro and sweet potatoes, and clean the house inside and outside. The next morning, the whole family dressed up to kill sheep, cook taro and eat flying fish. The flying fish final food festival was held on 10 14. The dried flying fish collected by every household that night should be taken out and cooked. After the last family dinner this year, no matter how much is left, flying fish should be discarded, and flying fish should not be eaten before the flying fish season next year.
