The Dai people in Xishuangbanna don't celebrate the Spring Festival, and the Songkran Festival is the Dai people's New Year.

Introduction of Songkran Festival:

1. The Songkran Festival is a traditional festival for Dai, Thai-speaking people and Southeast Asia. People in overseas Thai settlements such as Kowloon City in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, Taiwan Province Province get up early in the morning and bathe in Buddha's light. After that, they began to celebrate for a few days. Everyone spilled pure water on each other and prayed to wash away the bad luck of the past year.

2. The Water-Splashing Festival is a comprehensive stage to display the traditional culture of Dai people, such as water culture, music and dance culture, food culture, costume culture, folk worship and so on. It is an important window to study the history of Dai people and has high academic value. The artistic performances such as palm-dancing and white elephant dance displayed in the Water-splashing Festival are helpful to understand the national characteristics of the Dai people, such as understanding nature, respecting Buddha in love the water, and being gentle and calm.
