The estuary is located at the southeast end of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, east longitude103 23 ′ ~10417 ′, and north latitude 22 30 ′ ~ 23 02 ′. Hekou is a county-level city. The vertical distance from north to south is 57.5 kilometers, and the horizontal distance from east to west is 90.75 kilometers.

It borders Maguan County and Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in the northeast, Jinping Miao, Yao and Dai Autonomous County across the Red River in the west, Pingbian Miao Autonomous County in the north and Laojie Province of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the south.
