Pan Yunduan, the owner of the garden, used to be an ambassador to Sichuan, and his father, Pan Enguan, went to the Zuodu Imperial Court and the Shangshu of the Ministry of Punishment. Paine resigned and returned to his hometown to support the elderly. In order to let his father enjoy his old age, Pan Yunduan started from Jiajing 1559 in the Ming Dynasty, and after more than 20 years of painstaking efforts, he built the Yuyuan Garden. "Jade" means "Peace" and "Antai", hence the name "Yuyuan Garden", which means "Jade Yue Lao Qin".

Yu Garden, covering an area of more than 70 mu, was carefully designed by Zhang Nanyang, a famous gardener in Ming Dynasty, and personally participated in the construction. The whole garden is grand in scale and beautiful in scenery, and the ancients praised it as "a must in the southeast" and "the famous garden crown in the southeast".
Now Yu Garden covers an area of more than 30 mu. There are more than 40 scenic spots, such as Sansuitang, rockery, Iron Lion, Kuailou, Deyue Building, Yulinglong, Yuji Water Gallery, Tingtao Pavilion, Hanbi Building, Neiyuan Jingguan Hall, and ancient stage, with jagged pavilions and jagged rocks and lush trees, which are famous for their beauty and exquisiteness.
