According to reports, the custom of Enping people eating hair cakes on the second day of the Lunar New Year originated in the Ming Dynasty. It is said that there was a lonely beggar in Enping. When the New Year came, he still begged in the street. On the second day of the lunar new year, a kind-hearted pastry shop owner took him in, taught him the skills of making snacks, and then funded him to go back to his hometown and open a pastry shop.

Later, beggars created a unique food and chose to sell it in the market. When people first saw this kind of food, they felt very novel. When they asked what it was, beggars said it was a "hair cake" for the New Year, and people bought it to taste. Later, beggars made a fortune by selling hair cakes to help poor children go to school, which became a story for a while. Since then, the custom of Enping people eating "fat cakes" to worship their ancestors and open the new year has been passed down to this day.
