Nanchang, referred to as "Hong" or "Chang", was called Zhang Yu and Hongdu in ancient times. It is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital and core city of Poyang Lake urban agglomeration under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province, and an important central city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in China approved by the State Council. As of 20 19, there are 6 districts and 3 counties in the city, with a total area of 7 195 square kilometers.
Nanchang is located in the east of China, north of central Jiangxi Province, downstream of Ganjiang River and Fuhe River, and southwest of Poyang Lake. China is the only provincial capital center city adjacent to the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and the economic zone on the west side of the Taiwan Strait. It is also one of the important central cities in East China and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

As of 20 14, Nanchang has more than 600 cultural sites, 18 human landscapes and 26 natural landscapes, making it an excellent tourist city in China. 1986, the State Council named Nanchang as a national historical and cultural city. There are more than 50 world-class, national, provincial and municipal key cultural relics protection units in the city.
