China version of Midnight Food Store is an urban emotional drama jointly produced by Heshi, directed by and starring Huang Lei. Adapted from Japanese popular comic book Midnight Food Store and China version of Midnight Food Store of the same name, in order to preserve the spirit and atmosphere of the original comic book, the shooting team set up a canteen and street view at Asasan Pier in Kaohsiung to faithfully present the comic scene for the audience. The play takes the dining hall in the alley of the city as the stage, and pulls out a series of life stories about the warmth of the market from every dish cooked by the boss.
The difference between this drama and the Japanese version of Midnight Food Store is that under the influence of Huang Lei, this drama is less cold and more warm. Just like in "Three Sisters", the boss carefully observes everyone's emotional changes, so he can mediate the contradictions of three people in a simple sentence or two, or he can use a bowl of instant noodles to resolve the embarrassment of reconciliation between three people. First, tell a story that happened in a corner of the city in gentle and calm language, then impress the softest place in your heart with the unique affection of the story, and finally end up with a food that seems to be homely but is connected with infinite emotions. With its unique narrative mode and restrained emotions, the play endows itself with "broad healing power", which can make busy diners stop and put their emotions, which is one of the reasons why it can warm the audience.
