If you are familiar with PowerPoint, according to the principle of positive transfer of knowledge in psychology, your knowledge and skills can be transferred to Keynote, which fundamentally determines that you can learn Keynote quickly. This is because both Keynote and PowerPoint are demonstration software. Nowadays, the latest versions of Keynote 7.2 and PowerPoint 20 16 are all evolved from the early PowerPoint 2002, and they all have the same side.

PowerPoint and Keynote are quite different in interface, terminology and operation. According to the principle of negative transfer of knowledge in psychology, you need to know the difference between PowerPoint and Keynote in order to avoid the interference of PowerPoint and use Keynote correctly.

(A) the difference between the interface

The main interface of PowerPoint is Ribbon style (see figure 1), while the main interface of Keynote is classic menu bar+toolbar style (see figure 2), which is a bit like PowerPoint 2003 or earlier, and it is easier for old PowerPoint users to adapt.

The following lists the connections and differences between Keynote interface elements and PowerPoint interface elements.

(2) Add an object

The so-called object is everything that appears on the slide page, such as text boxes, shapes (including lines, closed shapes and open shapes), tables, charts, images, videos and audio.

In PowerPoint, inserting an object (hey, don't get me wrong) means adding a new object to the slide page. To do this, click the Insert tab, and then select the object to insert (see Figure 3).

In Keynote, inserting an object is called adding an object. The specific operation is to click one of the six buttons in the middle of the toolbar, as shown in Figure 4.

(3) Set the format of the object

In PowerPoint, to format an object, just right-click the object and select Format Shape, and the task pane will pop up on the right side of the PowerPoint window (see Figure 5A). Set the format of the object here, such as fill, line, shadow, 3D, size, position, rotation, etc.

In Keynote, to format an object, just click an object, and the inspector on the right side of the Keynote window will automatically display all formatting options (see Figure 5B). Format the object here. For example, fill, line, shadow, image, font, size, position, rotation, etc.

(4) Tables and charts

In PowerPoint, to insert a table, you need to click Insert → Table, and then determine the number of rows and columns. Finally, PowerPoint will generate a table.

To add a table in Keynote, just click the Table button on the toolbar and select a table style (see Figure 6). Keynote will automatically add a table with 5 rows and 4 columns in the center of the slide page. Click to select a table, and Keynote will display row and column labels at the top and left of the table like Excel, as shown in Figure 7. Click the "||" button in the upper right corner of the table to increase or decrease the number of columns; Click the "=" button in the lower left corner of the table to increase or decrease the number of rows.

Keynote's tabular functions are similar to Excel's, such as filling tables, using functions and formulas in tables, and setting conditional formats, which are better than PowerPoint's. But PowerPoint tables can be set in more complex formats, and can be used as a typesetting tool, which is better than Keynote.

In PowerPoint, to insert a chart, you need to click Insert → Chart, then select the chart type and click OK. Finally, PowerPoint will generate a chart.

To add a chart to Keynote, you need to click the chart button on the toolbar, and then click a chart type (see Figure 8). Keynote will automatically add a chart in the center of the slide.

Keynote's chart function is not as good as PowerPoint. First of all, Keynote 7.2 has only 24 kinds of charts, while PowerPoint 20 16 has 59 kinds of charts in 16 categories. Secondly, Keynote can't format charts like PowerPoint, so the common chart skills in PowerPoint can't be realized in Keynote.

However, compared with PowerPoint, the main advantage of Keynote is that the use of charts is relatively simple, there are many built-in chart styles, and the design is professional, so beginners can easily make charts with a sense of design to demonstrate.

(5) Animation

In Keynote, the animation from the previous slide to the next slide is called transition animation, which is equivalent to PowerPoint switching animation.

Similarly, when switching from the previous slide to the next slide, PowerPoint needs to set the switching animation on the next slide, while Keynote must put the transition animation on the previous slide to take effect.

In Keynote, click the animation effect button on the right side of the toolbar, and Keynote will pop up the animation effect inspector on the right side of the window. Click the blank space of the current slide to specify the transition animation for the current slide, and the "transition" label will be displayed in the animation effect inspector (see Figure 9A).

In Keynote, the animation of objects on the same slide is called component effect animation, which is equivalent to PowerPoint's custom animation.

There are three types of component effect animation:

Keynote has an action animation called "Move to", which is equivalent to PowerPoint's "Action Path" animation. The power of "move to" is that you can draw a curve first and then let the object move along this curve.

In Keynote, click the animation effect button on the right side of the toolbar, and Keynote will pop up the animation effect inspector on the right side of the window. Click an object on the slide to animate the component effect of the object, and labels such as "Component Appearing", "Action" and "Component Disappearing" will be displayed in the animation effect inspector (see Figure 9B).

There is a component order button at the bottom of the animation inspector. Click it, and Keynote will pop up the component sequence window, which is equivalent to the animation pane of PowerPoint, listing all the component animations on the current slide and their sequence.
