Xiaowotou

Minced Pork Shaobings

According to legend, one night, Cixi had a dream about eating Shaobings filled with minced meat. At breakfast the next day, minced pork sesame cakes were served as expected. When Cixi saw that the food was the same as in her dream, she was very happy and said that it was a dream come true for her. When asked who made the sesame cakes, the waiter said it was the imperial chef Zhao Yongshou. Cixi immediately rewarded Zhao Yongshou with a tail feather and twenty taels of silver. Since then, minced pork sesame cakes have been passed down as a dream-fulfilling sesame cake.
