Picture layout refers to the picture layout of newspapers, magazines and illustrated newspapers, which is the overall structure of newspaper content carefully designed by editors.

It involves the distribution and combination of pictures and texts, the size and form of titles, the division and change of columns and lines, and the application of decoration and color. It plays an important role in the content and form of newspapers and often reflects the style and characteristics of newspapers and periodicals.

The picture in the layout is not only the expression of the report content, but also the most important visual element in the layout. Combined with other layout methods, the layout is presented to readers as a whole and becomes an aesthetic object.

There are four main forms of pictures in the layout:

1. For a single picture (including illustrations), the size and position of the border should be in the form of the whole page, the first one should be flat, hidden and the second one should be different (changed). When designing the layout, we should make overall planning, with pictures and texts, forward-looking topics and appropriate density. Important pictures should be placed in the strong area of the layout to stimulate the readers' visual organs and increase their interest in reading. General pictures should be closely related to written reports.

2, column pictures, newspapers and magazines dedicated to local layout photos or works of art, more flowers around the frame to show eye-catching. Column pictures are relatively independent in layout, some are serialized in fixed columns and positions for a long time, and some are arranged temporarily.

3, pictorial pictures, newspapers use full-page or half-page, magazines use full-page to publish the layout structure of pictures. Pictorial magazines composed of multiple pictures should be symmetrically arranged evenly, with alternating density and uneven levels, and properly decorated to make them seamless and have an overall modeling effect.

4. There are many pages of pictorial pictures, and most of them have full-time artists who are responsible for the overall design and arrangement of pictorial pages. In addition to the front cover and back cover, a group of manuscripts are often published in multiple pages, and the layout should be coherent and varied. The layout of the whole pictorial should be holistic, systematic, rhythmic and contemporary.
