Beijing area IMAX theaters and IMAX/3D Dark Night Stars Published on: 2009-12-24 21:09
There are three IMAX screens in Beijing, respectively in Shuang'an Huaxing and the Film Museum and Shijingshan Wanda.
Shuangan Huaxing is the earliest IMAX in Beijing. Screen size 26*18, 468 square meters. General feature films, with or without 3D effects: full price 80-85 yuan, Tuesday and morning screenings 40-42.5 yuan. Membership cards can be booked online and get an additional 30% discount. Non-members can purchase tickets on-site at the box office one day in advance.
Note: First of all, the screen of Huaxing is dirty and dark, and the projection equipment is also relatively old. Secondly, the seating arrangement in Huaxing's IMAX hall is not reasonable, so you will feel strong discomfort when watching in the front row. It is recommended to choose seats in the last six rows and beyond. In addition, Huaxing's IMAX Hall (Hall 2) does not only play IMAX movies. It usually covers the screen and uses it to play ordinary movies. So please read the scheduling instructions on their website.
The Film Museum has the largest IMAX screen in Beijing, with the best brightness and sound effects. The screen size is 27 * 21, 567 square meters, and the seating arrangement is reasonable, so there is no need to tilt your neck too much - of course, it is still recommended to choose the middle position. In addition, the price of the film museum is generally the cheapest, ordinary IMAX films are 60, 3D films are 40, other films are generally 30, and student ID cards for undergraduates and below are half price. Additionally, membership cards are available at half price. Please check the website for information.
Note: The Film Museum does not accept advance reservations, and the distance is very long and transportation is not convenient. It's closed on Mondays, so there won't be many people in the middle of the week, but not necessarily on weekends, so please make your own time. However, if you miss the opening due to queuing, you can still visit the museum. In addition, there is a simple cafeteria on the ground floor, which is not expensive and not bad.
Shijingshan Wanda is “Asia’s first digital IMAX screen”. No official data on its size has been found online, but unofficial data shows that its screen area is 22*12.6, 268 square meters.
Basic knowledge about IMAX and 3D
The biggest feature of IMAX is MAX: big. IMAX officials do not have regulations on screen size. It is generally believed that screens up to 22*16 can be counted as IMAX. Of course, screen size is not the only feature, but also related to the resolution during screening and so on. For more detailed information such as 70mm film, 4k projector, etc. please google or Baidu.
3D movie means that during the playback of the movie, all or part of the clips need to be watched with 3D glasses to see 3D special effects. At present, more and more movies (mainly cartoons for the time being) are beginning to adopt this technology. For example, Avatar, which will be released in early January next year, will be fully 3D. There are currently three types of commonly used 3D glasses: red and blue glasses, polarized glasses and liquid crystal glasses - again, please search for specific information on your own, and this introductory post will not spend time on it.
The last thing to add is that IMAX and 3D movies are two completely different concepts and have no relationship. IMAX is just big, and only 3D movies require glasses. Therefore, based on this standard, movies can be divided into the following categories: ordinary movies; ordinary IMAX movies, such as Transformers 2; 3D movies, such as Guinea Pigs, Ice Age 3, etc.; IMAX+3D movies, such as Avatar.
