Cowpea planting season and time
Cowpea planting is seasonal, and can be planted in February-March in the spring, June-August in the summer, or August-September in the fall, and can be planted a little earlier in northern areas.
There are many varieties of cowpea, most of them are cultivated varieties, the more common ones are Yan belt cowpea, eight-inch cowpea, ground cowpea, seven-inch cowpea, Yang cowpea series, Nanjing Xingguang series and so on, and there is not much difference in the planting time between different cowpea varieties.
Cowpea harvest season
Cowpea planting time is different, its harvest time is not the same, its growth cycle in 55-70 days ranging, the market time is more concentrated in June to September, usually per mu can produce 1700-3000 kg, the price per catty then 1-3 yuan.
Cowpea planting steps and methods
1, land fertilization
Pre-sowing should be 20-30 cm deep plowing, in addition to the application of some grass ash, hulling ash as a base fertilizer, and then the soil will be broken and raked flat.
2, sowing seedlings
Spread the seeds of cowpea on top of the organized seedbed, use the hole sowing method, 3-4 seeds per hole, cover the seeds with soil after sowing and wait for the seeds to germinate.
3, harvesting and seed saving
When harvesting cowpea, make sure not to damage the flower buds of the plant, and harvest before the seed expands, and have enough patience when picking.
