Portugal is a developed country, but its economy is not outstanding among the developed countries in Europe. According to relevant statistics, Portugal is a developed high-income country. Most industries, enterprises and financial institutions are concentrated in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto. Setubal, Aveiro, Braga, coimbra and leiria are the largest economic centers outside these two major regions.

Portugal has a typical Mediterranean climate, with an annual sunshine duration of about 2300-3200 hours, with an average of 4-6 hours in winter and 10- 12 hours in summer, which is higher in the southeast and lower in the northwest. The average sea surface temperature on the west coast of the Portuguese mainland varies from14–16 C in winter to19–21C in summer. In winter, the temperature ranges from16 C, rising to about 22–23 C in summer, and occasionally reaching 26 C (78.8 F).
