Herbaceous, 1 to 1.5 meters high, the whole plant is fragrant. Stem square, pubescent. The leaves are opposite, ovate or broadly ovate, with coarsely serrated edges, broad wedge-shaped base, extending down to the petiole to form narrow wings, with sparse pubescence on both sides. Cymes axillary or terminal; calyx bell-shaped, calyx teeth 5, nearly equal and slightly larger posterior teeth; flowers 2-lipped, upper lip helmet-shaped, brown or purple, lower lip yellow, flat, apex 3-lobed: stamens 4. The small nut is oval, with a ribbed abdomen, a rounded back, and brown color. The flowering period is from October to December.
