The mallard duck is a national second-class protected animal. The mallard duck is named for its green head feathers. Mainly inhabiting freshwater lakes, they belong to aquatic animals and feed on plankton and weeds in the water. Due to overfishing and changes in the ecological environment, the number of mallard ducks is decreasing, so it is listed as a protected animal by the State Forestry Administration of China.
