After harvesting the ginkgo fruit, the pulp outer seed coat should be removed as soon as possible. There are three traditional methods in different producing areas:
1. Soaking method: 1. Ginkgo seeds should be soaked in water for 7 to 10 days, up to 15 days. 2. Use hands and feet to separate the outer seed coat and seed core (gingko). 3. Put it in a basket and sieve and rinse it in running water to wash out the ginkgo. 4. Dry quickly in the sun or shade.
2. Heap retting method: 1. Stack the ginkgo seeds for about 15 days until the outer seed coats are ripe and watery. Use steps 2 and 3 of method 1 to wash out the ginkgo. Then air dry.
The ginkgo washed out by the above method is white, but contains heavy water and needs to be dried quickly. The ginkgo washed out by method two is relatively dry, but a few ginkgo with cracked outer testa have black streaks on them. And there is a foul smell in the retting pile.
3. Beating in a stone mortar: After harvesting the ginkgo seeds, immediately place them in a stone mortar and hit them with a thick wooden stick. After separating the outer testa and the middle testa, rinse immediately and separate the ginkgo. This method can be put on the market quickly, but it is broken up to 5-10 times, and the peeling is not very clean, and there are black spots on the surface of the ginkgo.
Four. Mechanical peeling: At present, peeling machinery has become relatively popular. Mechanical separation and washing based on water soaking or retting replaces manual operation, which not only reduces labor intensity, but also greatly improves efficiency.
