First, thermal storage
Chaenomeles are usually planted before and after Qingming Festival. If they germinate before this, they need to be stored in heat preservation. Because it is afraid of cold, it will be frostbitten at 5-7℃, so the temperature should be controlled between 8- 10℃. Indoor can be placed in antifreeze cartons, with buds facing up, and the cartons can't be closed, so as not to affect its breathing.
Second, sowing seeds
Because the fingered citron has germinated, the step of accelerating germination is omitted, and it can be directly sown. If the ground is planted, the soil should be deeply turned and a little farmyard manure should be sprinkled as the base fertilizer. If potted, a large pot should be selected and mixed with sandy soil and garden soil to make pot soil. Dig a pit on the surface of the soil, bury the melon seeds in the pit, and pour a little water.
Third, seedling maintenance
When the chayote grows buds, it is the seedling stage. At this time, it is necessary to keep the temperature between 20-25℃, and at the same time, give it enough light and ensure good ventilation. Keep 2-3 shoots on the vine, and remove all the others. When 4-5 leaves grow, the terminal buds need to be picked to promote the growth of lateral buds.
Fourth, leading vines and pruning
When the fingered citron grows up, it needs to be vines and pruned. Its climbing ability is very strong and it grows very fast. When the melon vine grows to 40 cm, it can be guided to a tree or a wall with bamboo poles or ropes to grow. After that, it should be trimmed properly to remove the lateral buds at the base and control its growth direction.
