Lu 'an, also called "Gaocheng" and "Wanxi", is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province. It is located in the west of Anhui Province, at the northern foot of Dabie Mountain, on the west wing of the Yangtze River Delta, and adjacent to Hefei, the provincial capital. The terrain is steep in the southwest and flat in the northeast, and it is a trapezoidal distribution, belonging to the transition zone from north subtropical zone to warm temperate zone, with a total area of 1545 1.2 square meters. As of February 2023, the city has jurisdiction over 3 districts and 4 counties. By the end of 2022, the permanent population of Lu 'an was 4.379 million.
The name of Lu 'an began with Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, taking the initials of six counties in Hengshan, Anfeng and Anfeng, and calling it Lu 'an, which means "six places are safe and never rebel". Because Hao Tao was granted in six, Lu 'an was later called Gaocheng. There are many natural and cultural landscapes in China, including 26 national scenic spots above 4A level, 2 national tourism demonstration zones and 3 provincial tourist resorts. Lu 'an city has complex and diverse landforms, which are located on the inclined plane facing Huaibei Plain on the northern slope of Dabie Mountain. The terrain is high in the southwest and low in the northeast, and it is distributed in a ladder shape from south to north. It is divided into four major units: mountainous area on the northern slope of Dabie Mountain, Jianghuai hilly area, Jianghuai hilly area and plain polder. The Huaihe River and the Yangtze River form two major water systems in the territory.
