Method 1: Prepare
1. Choose the best chicken. The better the quality, the less toxins it contains. Boneless chicken breast is the simplest choice, because there is no need to remove fat and bones. If possible, please choose chicken without hormone treatment.
2. Buy a pack of polished rice or indica rice. Please avoid using instant rice as dog food, because the nutritional value of instant rice is low. Brown rice can also be used, but it needs to be cooked for a long time to ensure that the rice is completely cooked and soft enough for digestion, so as not to cause discomfort to the dog's stomach and large intestine.
Some publicity materials may say that brown rice should be avoided because it contains too much fiber, but this is not the case. Fiber can help promote intestinal peristalsis. Animal nutritionists believe that fiber can change the intestinal transmission speed of dogs (in other words, it can promote the excretion of dogs with constipation symptoms, but please pay attention to controlling the amount of rice, otherwise it may lead to diarrhea).
There is no need to buy organic or non-GMO rice. There is no evidence that the nutritional value of these rice is different from that of ordinary rice.
3. Prepare to cook chicken. Chicken can also be cooked with bones, but remember to remove the bones after cooking. If the raw chicken is boned in advance, the meat can be cooked more quickly and thoroughly during cooking. Cut the chicken from the bone (or buy boneless chicken directly) and remove the fat from the chicken.
Cut the chicken into 1 cm square diced chicken for small dogs to swallow. For medium or large dogs, chicken can be cut into 2 cm diced chicken. For a dog with a tooth change, the chicken needs to be cut smaller.
Method 2: Roasted chicken rice.
1. Put the chicken in a big soup pot and soak it in enough water. Simmer until the inside of the chicken is completely white. Cooking time varies from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the chicken pieces. It takes longer to cook chicken with bones.
If the chicken is not fully cooked, your dog's risk of diarrhea and vomiting will increase, because the undercooked chicken contains bacteria.
2. Take the chicken out of the water and let it cool completely. Save the broth for later use. You can spread the chicken out on the baking tray so that it will cool faster, or you can put the chicken in a colander and rinse it with cold water.
3. After cooling, remove all the bones from the chicken. After boneless, cut the chicken into half an inch or smaller diced chicken for the puppy to swallow. For medium or large dogs, cut the chicken into diced chicken less than an inch. Don't let your dog touch chicken bones anywhere. Because chicken bones are easily broken, they are likely to get stuck or puncture the dog's throat, stomach or intestines. This is fatal to dogs.
4. Skim off the oil on the top of the broth and pour the remaining liquid into the container. If you have removed the fat from the chicken before cooking, you can omit this step. Measure two and a half cups (59 1.47 ml) of chicken soup, and pour the chicken soup into the pot.
5. Boil the broth. While waiting for the broth to boil, you can start preparing rice.
6. First measure a cup (about 236 ml) of rice (about the amount of a big dog) and wash it thoroughly. The container for washing rice can be a basin, a rice cooker liner or a bowl. Add enough water to soak the rice, and then stir it by hand. Wash the raw rice carefully several times until the rest is clear water. The process of rice washing can remove excess starch and arsenic from rice.
7. Cook with chicken soup. After the broth is boiled, pour a cup of rice into the soup, cover the pot and stew for 20 minutes (brown rice takes about 40-45 minutes). After cooking for a period of time, rice can absorb all the water and become slightly damp.
8. Let the cooked rice cool completely. You can spread rice on a barbecue plate and use a cardboard fan to cool down, which can improve the cooling speed.
Method 3: Feed the dog.
1. Mix the cooked chicken and rice. Note that the ratio of rice to chicken should be 2: 1 or 3: 1. For example, 2-3 cups of rice are mixed with 1 cup of chicken.
2. Add roast chicken rice to the dog's daily diet. Feed the dog according to the instructions of the veterinarian, but generally be careful not to feed too much when the dog has vomiting symptoms. If the dog has a good appetite, it can be fed more. Remember the feeding rules, please follow the dog's eating habits completely.
3. Gradually convert chicken rice into normal dog food. If the effect of roast chicken rice is good, you can try to mix dog food into rice when feeding. Add more dog food every day, gradually reduce the amount of roast chicken rice, and gradually restore the original recipe within 4-5 days. Consult the veterinarian first, and then consider whether to change the dog food. You can decide whether to feed chicken rice for a few more days according to the specific situation of the dog.
If the dog's symptoms have not improved, please contact the veterinarian immediately. Chicken rice can only be used as a temporary substitute. If the dog's diarrhea symptoms do not improve within the expected time, or the dog's defecation is still thin after three days, please contact the veterinarian immediately. The veterinarian will judge whether you need to take it for reexamination and receive additional treatment, or give you some advice on the phone, such as adding some canned pumpkins or other simple methods.
Tip: Determine the dog's diet after consulting the veterinarian. Veterinarians will judge whether light food can alleviate the symptoms of dogs according to their conditions, and may need further drug treatment if necessary.
Dogs' internal organs can't break down spices as easily as people do. So please don't use salt, pepper or any other spices when cooking for dogs at home.
Warning If the dog continues to vomit, please contact the veterinarian immediately. Dogs (especially puppies) will dehydrate quickly during vomiting, so it is very important to keep their bodies hydrated during rehabilitation. The more dehydrated they are, the more serious their symptoms will be, and even affect the operation of other organs of the body, especially the kidneys.
Light food may not be suitable for dogs to eat for a long time. If your dog has been eating chicken rice, it may lack many necessary vitamins and minerals. If you are considering cooking home-cooked food for your dog regularly, you can consult the veterinarian about the source of ingredients.
Remember not to put oil in cooking and remove all the fat from the meat. It is difficult for the pancreas of dogs to break down these compounds, and it may also cause organ inflammation.
