In the hinterland of Kunlun Mountain in the southeast of Ruoqiang County, there is a magical big lake, which is the largest lake at the junction of Tibet, Qinghai and New Zealand provinces. It is 37 kilometers long from east to west, 7.6 kilometers wide from north to south and covers an area of 260 square kilometers. The lake is 4708 meters above sea level and 2- 10 meters deep. This alpine lake was discovered after satellite photography and field investigation of geological work. The lake contrasts with the snow-capped peaks and ice peaks. The shape of the lake is like a fat whale lying on its back, hence the name "Whale Lake".
