I worked in Ruili, Yunnan last year, and I like this place very much. Although Ruili is not a famous tourist city, it is definitely a small town with characteristics, such as population characteristics, geographical location and food culture.
Ruili, which is close to Myanmar, is the largest jade jewelry distribution center in China, so you can go to the jewelry market. The famous ones are Huafeng Jewelry Market, the jewelry street opposite the bus station, and the jewelry morning market told by my sister (just tell the driver when you take a taxi), but you'd better identify jade, otherwise you may lose money or even buy fakes.
As for tourist attractions, the two countries that are well-known in Ruili are Murray Waterfall and Yizhai, as well as the Guomen and duty-free shops located in Jiegao, among which Murray Waterfall is a little farther away and on the way to mangshi. I think you don't know anyone there. If there are many people, you can sign up for a tour group to visit Muse City in Myanmar, but you can't apply for a tourist visa now. The travel agency can only take the border passage (by iron boat). For those who don't have a tourist visa, it can actually be called "smuggling", but it's generally okay. After the past, the travel agency told you some precautions. There is nothing to buy there, especially not to buy jade, whether it's a shopping mall or a stall. The cost of going to Myanmar is generally more than 2 yuan.
Of course, snacks are the most worth trying. The population of Ruili is mainly Dai and Jingpo, and there are also many Burmese, so the diet is quite distinctive. In the morning, you can eat rice noodles (with lemon, which tastes good) and thin bean flour. Myanmar crispy buns are especially recommended. There is one on the right side of the intersection of Xinguang Road and Xin 'an Road heading for Huafeng Market.
Other snacks include hand-made rice noodles (there is an authentic hand-made rice noodle by Sister Sa Achang near the intersection of Renmin Road and Langdao), spicy dishes (there is an old-fashioned spicy dish around the island, which is well known by Ruili people), donkey meat hot pot (Zhangjia donkey meat hot pot in Jiangbian Square is the best shop in Ruili, which needs to be visited in advance), and Thai chicken oil rice (opposite to Ruihong Road Maternal and Child Health Station, eating). In the evening, many people are used to eating barbecue and drinking landscape beer, and they can also eat midnight snack (there is a Burmese snack bar on Guangmu Road, next to Qianzhilv Hot Pot Restaurant, whose name has been forgotten). These are basically the delicious places.
Special reminder, you can go anywhere during the day, but don't expect to stay up late at night. I suggest not to go out after 11 o'clock. Even if you go out, you should take a taxi, not to mention going to places where there are few people. People around me have had several experiences of being robbed.
In addition, Ruili has a subtropical continental climate, and it was already very hot when you went on May Day. I suggest you prepare for heatstroke prevention and sun protection.
